Poem by Mrs. Chas. Shepard
Read just before dinner 1902
We meet again ‘neath this beautiful tree,
With the table most bountifully spread,
With grass and flowers beneath our feet,
And blue skies overhead.
We come to celebrate this day,
On beautiful Hill View,
And meet to greet this aged one,
Whose years are ninety-two.
This aged one looks back and sees,
When she came here a bride,
With heart so full to overflow,
With William by her side.
Then time went on fleeting wing’
Its joys and sorrows both to bring,
And children came with smiles and tears
To bless them in declining years.
And time spread on when tears were shed,
William was numbered with the dead,
And she was left but not alone.
For children cluster round her home
Children, grandchildren, great grandchildren too
Have met today on bright Hill View,
Some come from far and some from near,
To meet with their Grandmother dear.
And clasp her hand with love most true,
This Reunion day nineteen hundred and two
And now we welcome all who are here
And to the absent send good cheer.
